My hotel expectations for New York City aren’t very high. Frankly, in my experience, you always pay a lot more for a lot less when staying in NYC. If you compare it to most any other metropolitan city in the nation, higher cost NYC hotels generally don’t have the space to offer much beyond a decent location, and if you’re lucky, complimentary Internet.
Best Western’s Herald Square Premier, which I had the pleasure to stay at, recently, is one of the exceptions. Here are five things that make this boutique-looking hotel stand out:
Location, Location, Location: The Herald Square Premier hotel is located in the heart of Manhattan, not far from the Empire State Building and a number of other NYC landmarks. If I had any complaint (and it’s not really the hotel’s fault), I would say that if you order Uber or Lyft transportation services, you will need to contact the driver because the app consistently does not capture the exact address of the hotel. Outside of that, I was close to pretty much any place I needed to get to; tourists will find a mecca of landmarks within a close radius of the hotel.
Impeccable Cleanliness:
You may already know that Best Western consistently ranks highly for its focus on cleanliness and anti-bacterial housekeeping techniques with remote controls wiped down, at the very least. At the Herald Square Best Western they have an anti-bacterial phone! OK, Best Western, I get it! No one knows clean more than you.
Large Buffet Breakfast: As with all Best Western Premier hotels, the Herald Square Premier features a large buffet packed with warm and cold foods, as well as a variety of drinks. The hotel cook can even customize an omelet for you, which is always an extra special treat since it’s not universally available.
Free Wi-Fi (that actually works!): If you’ve been to a hotel in NYC, you know that getting access to Wi-Fi is, many times, an additional charge. And even with that charge, many Wi-Fi connections prove problematic to connect to – if not downright impossible. In the past, I’ve been forced to leave even very high-end hotels that depend on wired connections because this problem is so notorious in NYC. But this was not a problem at the Herald Square Premier.
Convenient and Well-Stocked Gym: I’m not a gym rat. I wish I was, though, because I could sure use to shed a few extra pounds. But if you love to stay fit when you travel, this is another strength of the hotel. The Herald Square Premier has a very respectable gym that’s conveniently located in the basement floor, right next to the cafeteria, so you can have breakfast right before or after you exercise.
Now, I don’t dread coming to NYC. I honestly couldn’t be more excited to visit again and have a great place to stay – at the Best Western Herald Square Premier!
