Summertime is the most sacred bonding season for my family and I.  Tomorrow my wife Angela, four kids and I will embark on a majestic 1,400-mile All-American road trip through Utah and Colorado, July 11-21 that’s sponsored by State Farm, Best Western and Toyota.

With this road trip we will eclipse the cumulative 30,000-mile mark for driving, a milestone that is actually quite astonishing because it was done in just eight trips dating back to 2008 when we did a big trip to Texas.

#DRONIES, giveaways and social media

In the spirit of social media storytelling, I will be chronicling our family’s exploits daily through the hashtags #RoadProTripTips and #SafeSummer (@PapiBlogger on Instagram and Twitter), on Facebook, on YouTube and, of course, through PapiBlogger.com.

Building on a brand new social media trend, this time we will also take my followers to the sky for special aerial, drone camera videos called #dronies. Some of the expected viewpoints include Four Corners Monument, Monument National Park, Zion National Park and Arches National Park.

Our title sponsor State Farm is going to be part of several cool giveaways that we will be conducting throughout the trip, including two $150 gift cards and several roadside emergency kits.

This summer road trip also marks the first time that I collaborate with Toyota, a big partner of mine that also is the title sponsor of my annual Hispanicize event. The PapiMobile is a 2014 Toyota Highlander Hybrid.

Along the way our family will be staying almost exclusively at Best Western hotels, the national hotel chain that I also personally represent as a spokesperson and blogger of YouMustBeTrippin.com.

During this year’s family trip – like others past – history, geography, science and even photography will be in session for my kids Jonathan (14), Elena (10), Briani (5) and Naomi (2). The lessons of traveling – and enduring – together as a family are part of why the road trips have become one of the most important traditions the Ruiz family works hard to repeat every summer.
