In October 2025, PapiBlogger founder Manny Ruiz began publishing a deeply personal series on LinkedIn to commemorate his 25th anniversary as an entrepreneur. The series, titled “25 Days of Entrepreneur Wisdom,” reflects on the highs, lows, victories, and sacrifices that have shaped his path since co-launching Hispanic PR Wire, LatinClips, Hispanic Digital Network, Hispanicize, Noticias Newswire, DiMe Media, PapiBlogger, and many other media ventures beginning in the year 2000.
Although PapiBlogger originally launched as a parenting and family-life blog, Manny’s reflections offer something timeless for parents, entrepreneurs, and creators alike: a rare, honest look at what it really takes to build something from nothing — and how those choices ripple into family life.
Over the next several posts, we will share Manny’s 25 lessons exactly as he wrote them, curated here on PapiBlogger with his permission.
The series opens with his Day One reflection, published on LinkedIn on October 17, 2025.

Day One: The Treacherous Truth About Entrepreneurship
25 Years Ago Today!
Today marks 25 years to the day — Tuesday, October 17, 2000 — when a group of co-founders and I rented a small hotel room in downtown Miami to launch our first media ventures: Hispanic PR Wire (HPRW) and Black PR Wire (BPRW).
Against incredible odds — and often hostile opposition from the industry giant PR Newswire — HPRW not only held its own but ultimately brought its competitor to its knees. In the end, PR Newswire’s then publicly traded parent company, United Business Media, acquired Hispanic PR Wire and its sister brands, Hispanic Digital Network and LatinClips, for $5.5 million.
In the years since, I’ve launched several other media companies — and I’ve also faced my share of painful losses. So, on this silver anniversary, I want to share 25 of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned through the highs and lows of entrepreneurship.
The nugget below begins the first of my 25 Days of #EntrepreneurWisdom posts. Some lessons will sound familiar, but others might surprise you. More than anything, I hope these reflections serve as guideposts for the often lonely journey of building something from nothing.
Day One Nugget: #RealEntrepreneurship is TREACHEROUS

2004 PRWeek Article featuring Manny Ruiz and Hispanic PR Wire.
I’m not exaggerating when I say that if I had truly understood how hard entrepreneurship would be, I might never have done it. It would have been too frightening, even for a man of faith. Everything about starting — and sustaining — a business demands epic grit, sacrifice, and countless sleepless nights that can test even the strongest among us.
That’s why, when people tell me they want to start a business, I don’t immediately say, “Go for it”, or, “you can do it”. I’m not trying to be pessimistic when instead, I ask:
“Are you absolutely sure you understand what this will mean?”
Because the truth is, the journey will be brutally tough — on you, your family, your hobbies, your peace of mind. If you’re married or have children, the strain will be even greater. And at times, you’ll feel like no one truly understands why you must stay so focused on keeping your vision alive.

I’m deeply grateful for the impact of Hispanicize, the media and event platform that brought together the most influential American Latinos in social media, marketing, and film. It paved the way for what we’re doing today with Brilla Media and Minivela.
But I won’t sugarcoat it — Hispanicize also took a personal toll on me and my family. Knowing what I know now, I can honestly say: entrepreneurship is not for everyone. Even when you have experience, clarity, and passion, it’s still a grind that will demand more of you than you can imagine.
My friend and former business partner, Danny Correa, summed it up perfectly:
“It’s never as good or as bad as you think it will be.”
To which I’d add: that’s true — but only if you’re fully committed to sticking it out.
