These Classic Planking Moments Made Our Family Road Trip Memorable

I was truly honored to plank for Minnie Mouse. She was dressed in Hawaiian garbs to promote the new Aulani Resort in Hawaii.

Vacations are a time for exploring, having fun and just being plain silly.  This summer we heard about a new social media phenomena called planking, or plankiando in Spanish.  It’s a really stupid, harmless thing that entails laying straight like a log with your feet and your hands straight and your face down.  There is absolutely no meaning to planking except that in our case I tried to do it with famous places and people.  Almost no one had seen this done but in a couple places like the Golden Gate Bridge and in front of the Hollywood Walk of Fame we did overhear people say, “look, they’re planking!”  Planking made our 44-day road trip so much funner!  I hope you enjoy our collection of road trip planks!

My toddler Briani joined her sister Elena and I for her first plank in front of the Grand Tetons in Wyoming.

I couldn't believe we were allowed to plank in front of the Coca-Cola Polar Bear.

Day 35 of Miami to Alaska Family Road Trip: Arizona’s Petrified Forest and a Strange Hotel

The Grand Canyon is truly of the most beautiful places on Earth but unfortunately it also overshadows many surrounding natural treasures that are worth your visit.  One of those very special, must see places in the United States is Arizona’s Petrified Forest, the star of our family road trip’s 35th day.

Yes, that REALLY, REALLY is "Mater" from the movies Cars and Cars 2. This particular vehicle was the inspiration for that Disney Pixar's character.

Day 32 of Miami to Alaska Family Road Trip: We Plank for Hollywood

This plank cost us $3, the typical tip cost for photos.

On the 32nd day of our family road trip we woke up in a Hollywood state of mind so the PapiBlogger clan decided to do something very Hollywood right in front of the world famous Walk of Fame and Grauman’s Chinese Theater: we planked with Elvis and Batman!  A lot of people were simply stunned because they thought planking was, well, weird.  We get that a lot but that’s part of the beauty of public planking.  The more weird reactions you get, the funner it is.

We were just grateful that we were able to be with the celebrity lookalikes because until recently authorities had banned them from working the Walk of Fame. (more…)

Day 17 of the Miami to Alaska Family Road Trip: Flying Over and Walking on Glaciers in Skagway

Majestic.  God-inspired awesome.  Breath-taking.

Neither pictures nor words can fully describe the unfathomable beauty of what our family beheld in Skagway, Alaska during the 17th day of our epic journey from Miami to Alaska.

A Helicopter Ride for the Ages

The seeds for a great day took root last night when we learned at the last moment that a slot had miraculously opened up for us to board a helicopter in Skagway for an extraordinary excursion that involved flying to and landing on a remote gorgeous glacier.

Briani sat next to me for our flight to the Meade Glacier.

Day 4 of the Making Memories Family Road Trip took us for a pitstop visit to Atlanta’s World of Coca-Cola where we met up with Latina bloggers Jennifer Hutcheson (Mami2Mommy) and Piera Jolly (Latina Mom Bloggers and Jolly Mom) and their families for a short but eventful visit that included some surprising plankiando (planking).

The World of Coca-Cola

A huge downpour greeted us outside the World of Coca-Cola, which was welcomed because the weather throughout the entire southeastern United States was scorching and the wait time to get into the museum was about 30 minutes.  The museum ($16 for adults and $12 for children) is a colorful, interactive monument to the world’s most recognizable brand and despite being a bit too commercial for my own taste, we enjoyed the visit.
