Day 17 of the Miami to Alaska Family Road Trip: Flying Over and Walking on Glaciers in Skagway

Majestic.  God-inspired awesome.  Breath-taking.

Neither pictures nor words can fully describe the unfathomable beauty of what our family beheld in Skagway, Alaska during the 17th day of our epic journey from Miami to Alaska.

A Helicopter Ride for the Ages

The seeds for a great day took root last night when we learned at the last moment that a slot had miraculously opened up for us to board a helicopter in Skagway for an extraordinary excursion that involved flying to and landing on a remote gorgeous glacier.

Briani sat next to me for our flight to the Meade Glacier.

PapiBlogger Family Soars Over Mount St. Helens on Day 21 of Epic Road Trip

Majestic, proud and strong, Mount St. Helens continues to roar.

On the 21st Day of the PapiBlogger Family Road Trip the Ruiz clan went to the home where “The Goonies” was filmed and then did the ultimate volcano sight seeing by going airborne over the majestic Mount St. Helens in Washington.

ASTORIA HOME TO ‘THE GOONIES’

We began the day with a quick visit to Astoria, Oregon, a picturesque seaside town near the Oregon-Washington state border where a number of films have been shot including “Kindergarten Cop”, “Short Circuit” and most notably the 80’s classic “The Goonies”. The white “Goonies” house looks considerably smaller than it appears in the movie and overlooks Astoria’s seaport from a high, distant viewpoint. To see the house you have to park about 100 yards down from a hilly parking entrance that denotes its existence.

This wonderful bridge marks the border between Oregon and Washington. It was built by the engineer who created the Golden Gate Bridge.

As remote as it was to find the Goonies house we were surprised to learn that we were just one of four other families that were also there at the same time getting their photos taken in front of the famous house. Poor neighbors. The only consolation they have is that their homes have to be worth more because they’re next door to the Goonies. (more…)

Day 10 of Road Trip Takes Ruiz Family Up High Over the Grand Canyon and then to Las Vegas

Papillon Grand Canyon Helicopter Tours is the best known tour operator for visiting the Grand Canyon by air. Here's the exact version of the PapiHeli we rode.

Day 10 began with a bang as we took the kids by surprise with an air ride over the Grand Canyon in the PapiHeli.  Well, I don’t really have a PapiHeli but the company we chartered the 30-minute helicopter from is called Papillon Grand Canyon Helicopters.

Baby Briani enjoyed the ride in her mama's arms.

If you go to the Grand Canyon and you can afford to take a helicopter ride (it typically costs around $169 for adults and $149 for children under age 11 online), do it.  Sacrifice the expensive hotel or meals but do the helicopter ride because it will become one of the most memorable experiences of your life.
