PapiBlogger’s Newest Adventure for 2012? A Brand New Baby!

When I was 11, my teenage cousin Tammy and I had a memorable conversation about the number of kids that we each planned to have.  Tammy and I didn’t have a clue about parenthood then so at the time it sounded cool for us to say that we would do a competition to see which one of us would be the first to have 50 kids in all 50 states.

Thirty years later my cousin and I have three kids apiece but now that’s about to change because I recently learned – on my birthday, no less – that PapiBlogger is about to be a dad for a fourth time!

When my wife told me the news I instantly remembered the crazy old bet I made with my cousin.  Here’s what else instantly streamed into my head:

- YOU’VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME?!!!  In fact, my wife initially planned to play a joke on me that she was pregnant.   (more…)

Day 44 of Miami to Alaska Family Road Trip: At last back home in Miami!

We walked on glaciers, hung out with bears, planked with Elvis and even got the rare opportunity to open the Magic Kingdom with Mickey Mouse but on the 44th day of our family road trip all that we could think about was getting back home.

Latina blogger Stephanie Ruiz of Midtown Chica came to welcome us, one of numerous bloggers we hung out with throughout our trip.

Six hours after departing from Madison, Florida for the final leg of our epic drive aboard the PapiMobile (a 2011 Buick Enclave), we arrived at the Miami Williamson Buick GMC dealership where our family, friends and media awaited us (more…)

Day 34 of Miami to Alaska Family Road Trip: Sedona’s Wonderful Red Rocks

Sedona, Arizona is one of our favorite places in the whole United States so on the 34th day of our family road trip we ventured to see some of the things that makes this place so special.   Here’s seven things that we think make Sedona a terrific family destination:

- The red rock canyons.  These rocks are everywhere and they especially shine “reddest” at sunrise and sunset, the best time to photograph or video tape them.

- Slide Rock Park.  This park features a large spring that has natural water chutes that propel you through the rocks.  One part of the park also features a canyon with 12 foot cliffs that you can dive into the water from.  The water is frigid but your body will get used to it.  Diving from the 12-foot cliff is scary and exhilarating at the same time.

- An easy and great place to hike and bike.  The hiking paths in particular are not hard and offer beautiful walks right up to the red canyons.  This is like walking among the lower parts of the Grand Canyon. (more…)

Day 33 of Miami to Alaska Family Road Trip: Our Most Bizarre Vacation Day Ever, Part 2

Can our road trip get any stranger?  The 33rd day of our family road trip proved that when it comes to the PapiBlogger clan, the answer is a resounding yes.

Genesis of Trouble

We started the 33rd day of our family road trip with plans for a casual, 400-plus mile “driving day” from Barstow, California to Sedona, Arizona. We deliberately stayed in Barstow because it is strategically located in the southwestern chin of the picturesque Mojave Desert in California, which I wanted to videotape and photograph. (more…)

Day 24 of Miami to Alaska Family Road Trip: Our Most Bizarre Vacation Day Ever

On family road trips you have crazy days and then if you’re in our family you have indescribably bizarre days.

The 24th day of our road trip was one for the ages and it all started because I was doing something you always do on vacation: taking photos of scenic places.

The Mean Winds

We were traveling along Oregon’s coast from Newport to the famous Sea Lion Caves near Florence when just a couple miles from the caves I told my wife who was driving to pull over at a roadside overlook that faced a lighthouse surrounded by gorgeous cliffs. (more…)

Day 12 of Miami to Alaska Family Road Trip: Life in the PapiMobile

On Day 12 of our family road trip we had a long driving day from Grand Teton National Park to Butte, Montana so today I thought I would pause to share some insights on what we do to make such a long journey possible with three kids and two adults in the PapiMobile.

My Wife Drives and I Blog

Yes, it’s true, my wife – recent root canal surgery and all – drives the Buick Enclave nearly 90% of the time while I blog.  Thank God my wife is the iron woman when it comes to driving because I seem to have whatever you call someone who literally can’t drive for more than one hour without dozing off.

If you think that’s easy for me, it’s not.  Gathering information, checking facts, writing content, (more…)

Day 3 of Miami to Alaska Family Road Trip: A True Magic Kingdom Visit for the Ages

We couldn't believe the incredible blessing we had to be THE family chosen to open the Magic Kingdom! This photo was taken from the Main Street U.S.A. train station platform. Below us thousands of people.

The experience was so powerful I couldn't put my little camera down.

This was only part of our family's view from above the Main Street U.S.A. train station.

Surreal.  Unbelievable.  Magical.

When my wife and I thought about a cool way to launch this summer’s epic family road trip from Miami to Alaska we didn’t dream of what Disney randomly selected us to do Friday: be THE official family guests opening the entire Magic Kingdom!

In the annals of our family’s legendary traveling history – and we’ve logged more than 14,000 miles in four years of combined trips – we’ve had some really cool experiences but nothing so far compares to opening the Magic Kingdom, a Disney tradition that one lucky family gets daily.
