Day 32 of Miami to Alaska Family Road Trip: We Plank for Hollywood

This plank cost us $3, the typical tip cost for photos.

On the 32nd day of our family road trip we woke up in a Hollywood state of mind so the PapiBlogger clan decided to do something very Hollywood right in front of the world famous Walk of Fame and Grauman’s Chinese Theater: we planked with Elvis and Batman!  A lot of people were simply stunned because they thought planking was, well, weird.  We get that a lot but that’s part of the beauty of public planking.  The more weird reactions you get, the funner it is.

We were just grateful that we were able to be with the celebrity lookalikes because until recently authorities had banned them from working the Walk of Fame. (more…)

Day 31 of Miami to Alaska Family Road Trip: PapiMobile pitstops in San Diego for for work-related trip

I spent the day mostly working while my family went to watch the "Smurfs" in Anaheim's Downtown Disney.

Day 30 of Family Road Trip from Miami to Alaska: Rest and Healing at the Disneyland Resort

After two consecutive days of thrill rides and entertainment at Disneyland and California Adventure, we decided to slow down for some much needed rest and relaxation at the Disneyland Resort which until today we had not been able to enjoy.

Finally, I’m the One Who’s Sick

Given how everyone aboard our PapiMobile had gotten sick at one point or another in the trip, it was just a matter of time until I got something too.  On the 30th day of our road trip, a bad cold came upon me and it threw me down for the count.  I could not get up from the bed to the degree that ordinarily my kids would take the opportunity to make fun of me by taking pictures of me sick since I’ve done it to them.   (more…)

Day 29 of Family Road Trip from Miami to Alaska: A Big California Adventure and a Luau

On the 29th day of our family vacation we visited Disney’s California Adventure, a theme park that is much bigger than it’s state-specific name suggests and that also is home to three of our top five favorite attractions from ANY Disney park.

Plankiando with Minnie was one of my day's highlights. It was my honor to do it for her!

California Adventure

California Adventure, launched in 2001, is a 55-acre theme park located adjacent to Disneyland.  Built on land that was formerly Disneyland’s parking lot, the theme park resembles various aspects of California including its culture, landmarks and history.

The park is undergoing major construction for the 2012 launch of Cars Land, which will bring three new attractions as well as the new Carthay Circle Theater, a replica of the movie house where Walt Disney debuted  “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”  Carthay Circle Theater will be the park’s new iconic structure. Day 28 of Miami to Alaska Family Road Trip: Disneyland Like Never Before

I’ve loved Disneyland long before my first and only short visit a year ago.   It’s the magical place that I associated with the classic Mickey Mouse Club episodes that I watched after school as a boy and was the original place that I connected with Disney movies that I grew up with like “Pete’s Dragon”, “The Love Bug” and ”Bambi” (yes, I loved “Bambi” as a boy).

This year, as part our family road trip, the PapiBlogger clan returned to Disneyland without hurries.  This is a a recap of what we found particularly charming about Disneyland Park, the original place that opened for memories in 1955.

Star Tours and the Jedi Training Academy

I’m a major Star Wars fan so it should come as no surprise that my favorite attraction at Disneyland are the Star Tours ride (more…)

Video Scenes from Disneyland’s The Magic, The Memories & You Nighttime Show

This short video features scenes from our recent visit to Disneyland and the theme’s parks brand new dazzling night time show “The Magic, The Memories and You”.  The show projects wonderful lights and photos of park attendees taken by Disneyland employees that day unto the “It’s a Small World” ride.

Hilarious Video of Pluto Interrupting Disneyland Parade to Confront Paparazzi

In this 1-minute video you will see one of the funniest family memories we have of this summer as Pluto the dog breaks from his routine in Mickey’s Soundsational Parade in Disneyland to confront PapiBlogger and his peculiar helmet videocamera.  This video will make you smile!

Day 24 of Miami to Alaska Family Road Trip: Our Most Bizarre Vacation Day Ever

On family road trips you have crazy days and then if you’re in our family you have indescribably bizarre days.

The 24th day of our road trip was one for the ages and it all started because I was doing something you always do on vacation: taking photos of scenic places.

The Mean Winds

We were traveling along Oregon’s coast from Newport to the famous Sea Lion Caves near Florence when just a couple miles from the caves I told my wife who was driving to pull over at a roadside overlook that faced a lighthouse surrounded by gorgeous cliffs. (more…)

Day 23 of the Miami to Alaska Family Road Trip: Why Oregon’s Coast is the Most Scenic in the Continental U.S.A.

Mile per mile, no state compares to Oregon.

With apologies to California, Maine, Wyoming, Colorado, Arizona and Utah, Oregon’s coast is the most gorgeous scenic drive in the entire continental United States.

The Devil's Bowl is one of the more popular pit stops you should make. It's in the central part of the Oregon coast.

Our Buick Enclave, the PapiMobile, had plenty of vistas to stop for.

Here’s 6 reasons why I believe the Oregon coast rises above the rest:

1. Mile per mile, Oregon has more true scenic overlooks than any other state.  Some states grasp at almost anything to declare that they have a “scenic” overlook but not Oregon.  In Oregon, when you see a sign that says “scenic overlook”, it’s scenic times 10.  The crazy thing is that it seems there’s a legitimate scenic overlook in Oregon every two or so miles.    (more…)

Day 22 of Miami to Alaska Family Road Trip: The Evil Blister and Haystack Rock

The 22nd day of our family road trip started with a short drive to Cannon Beach, Oregon where we were looking forward to viewing the awesome Haystack Rock and eating lunch at a restaurant that overlooks the famous coastal formation.

No sooner had we finished our meal than did our older daughter began to cry of pain from a blister on her thumb.  If you’ve followed our road trip so far you know where this story is going as we’ve already had four medical situations: 1. my wife’s emergency root canal surgery, 2. my son’s severe Eczema crisis, 3. my toddler’s bladder infection and 4. my wife’s big gash atop the glacier in Alaska.

Elena's half finger/half blister.

Elena’s blister was threatening to make it five doctor’s visits in one road trip.  Her blister was so seriously freaky it was the full size of her thumb making her finger look part monster/part finger. (more…)
