Broadway bound and loving it.
On the 39th day of our family road trip, our family met with reporters for interviews about our trip and went to our first ever Broadway play “Mary Poppins.”
KIDS ENJOY DAY OF MEDIA INTERVIEWS

Our first of several interviews with PapiBlogger and Elena at the New York offices of The Vidal Partnership.
I don’t know if it has anything to do with the fact that I’m in media through PapiBlogger and our other blog and conference business the Hispanic PR Blog but my kids love to speak with reporters. (more…)

We rode a "Duck" just like this one.
On the 38th day of our PapiBlogger Family Road Trip, we went by land and by sea on Boston’s popular Duck Tour and discovered more reasons why Paul Revere was probably a more down to earth American patriot than his contemporary John Hancock.
BOSTON DUCK TOURS

Jonathan does some celebratory quacking while steering his Duck.
Ordinarily you wouldn’t catch me alive in a Duck Tour in Miami but seeing how the one in Boston works makes me believe that the one in my hometown might be worth recommending to my out of town friends. As I’ve mentioned before, city tours get poked fun at a lot but they serve a very practical function to help you scope out the place your visiting.

It looks like it always did on TV.

Elena plays Puritan dress up with one of the Pilgrim actresses at Plimoth Plantation.
On the 37th day of our family road trip, the PapiBlogger clan visited America’s Puritan roots in Plymouth, Massachusetts, boarded the Mayflower II and capped a long day with phantom-hunting at Boston’s premier ghost tour.

Jonathan and Elena really enjoyed their time in the Mayflower II.

Birds are always waiting to swoop in and steal some of the fish Humpback Whales collect during their ascent. Jonathan took this photo.ack Whales fish
On the 36th Day of the PapiBlogger Family Road Trip we took to the ocean waters off Gloucester, Massachusetts for some of the most fun whale watching adventures we could have ever dreamed of.

In a scene reminiscent of "Jaws", this Humpback was about 10 feet away from our vessel. This was one of two times a whale got real close to our ship.

At Last!
On the 35th Day of the PapiBlogger Family Road Trip we reached beautiful Maine, the third of four corners of the U.S. that we’re collecting in our cross continental journey of the United States.
MAINE, MAINE, MAINE!

We were full of exhaustion when we arrived in Maine.
At last, at 9:15 a.m. on July 24 we FINALLY reached Maine. In many ways Maine has been the Mount Everest state of our epic journey because it took so long to get there (nearly 10,000 miles) and because it represents the beginning of the end of our trip. From this point forward, the PapiMobile (aka 2010 Chevrolet Traverse) is headed south along the eastern seaboard back to Miami. (more…)

The Witch Dungeon Museum features this true scene of a man who was crushed to death with stones because he would not confess to being a witch. (The guy with a hat looks like a younger Brad Pitt).
On the 34th Day of the PapiBlogger Family Road Trip we pit stopped in the beautiful colonial town of Salem, Massachusetts where we got a first hand look at the history of the infamous Salem Witch Trials and also participated in a great ghost tour.
THE WITCH DUNGEON MUSEUM
Salem is a peculiar place to visit because it was the site of a major hysteria that swept across Massachusetts in the 1600s involving citizens being accused of witchcraft. The Salem witch trials (February 1692 thru May 1693) were a series of hearings before local magistrates followed by county court of trials to prosecute people accused of witchcraft in Essex, Suffolk, and Middlesex counties of colonial Massachusetts. This is as close as the Maid of the Mist Tour can get to the larger falls of the Niagara Falls.
On the 33rd Day of the PapiBlogger Family Road Trip we took a boat ride into the mouth of the mighty Niagara Falls and also learned first hand why the Canadian side of the Niagara Falls is better than the American side.

A moment to rest in front of the falls.
TIPS FOR MAID OF THE MIST BOAT TOUR
The best way to view the Niagara Falls on either side, Canadian or American, is with a boat ride into the very ankles of the waterfalls. The only way to get this highly sought after view is on the famous Maid of the Mist boat tour.

This two-story house is where so many hit Motown records were recorded. Seven other houses in this same neighborhood later comprised what would become Motown Records until 1972.
On the 32nd Day of the PapiBlogger Family Road Trip we discovered Detroit’s Motown roots, crossed into Canada and spent a wonderful evening visiting Niagara Falls.
MOTOWN HISTORICAL MUSEUM
If you love music, you can’t miss Detroit’s small but nostalgic Motown Historical Museum. Being that that my two older kids are big fans of Michael Jackson, this was one museum visit they were especially looking forward to.

Baby Briani gives her ticket scanned for her first Major League Baseball game at Detroit Tiger's Comerica Park.
On the 31st Day of the PapiBlogger Family Road Trip, the Ruiz clan traveled from Chicago to Detroit where we visited General Motor’s OnStar service headquarters and also enjoyed our first Major League Baseball game together ever as a family at the Tiger’s Comerica Park.
ONSTAR’S CENTRAL COMMAND CENTER

OnStar's Central Command looks like a war room.

Jonathan takes the OnStar test vehicle for a virtual drive.
Following a five hour drive from Chicago to Detroit we landed at the General Motors headquarters building for an exclusive inside tour of OnStar’s central command center.

Our family loved the glass enclosed balconies that were recently added to the 103-story Skydeck of the Sears Tower.
On the 30th Day of the PapiBlogger Family Road Trip, the Ruiz clan visited Chicago’s fun McDonald’s roots, ascended the Sears Tower and rode the rides of Navy Pier.
ROCK N ROLLING IN MCDONALD’S

BEFORE: This 1955 Des Plaines McDonald's is the one McDonald's visionary Ray Kroc established to grow the franchise.

AFTER: The ultra sleek Rock N Roll McDonald's restaurant is one of the company's flagship ones.
Our family’s first stop of the day was at Chicago’s world famous Rock N Roll McDonald’s which is where we hosted a McTweet Up. The Rock N Roll McDonald’s is a flagship restaurant/museum that has a Rock & Roll exhibit in a building adjacent to the restaurant and a small upstairs McDonald’s museum display. The building features the first two-lane McDonald’s drive-through, a gelato station in the second floor, luxurious decor, a café and plasma display flat screen televisions.
While at McDonald’s we treated the Bakers family of Indiana to breakfast and asked them to share their recipes for successful family road trips. The accompanying YouTube video features their tips. (more…)

It was too hot to avoid splashy in the eccentric water fountain.
On the 29th Day of the PapiBlogger Family Road Trip, we crashed the Chicago movie set of “Transformers 3”, played with some wild automotive insects and got soaked in Millennium Park.
CHICAGO DEEP PAN PIZZA
We started the day with lunch at Connie’s, a family-friendly Italian restaurant many locals favor for its Chicago-style deep pan pizza. When we get to New York the kids will give their verdict between authentic deep pan pizza of Chicago and thin crust-style pizza of New York. Stay tuned for that vote.
PAPIBLOGGER ON THE SET OF ‘TRANSFORMERS 3’ – SORT OF

Wreckage from Transformer 3 filming on the streets of Chicago.
After a satisfying lunch we headed over to Michigan Avenue, in downtown Chicago to see if we could get a sneak peek at some of the scenes being shot for “Transformers 3.” Chunks of Chicago’s downtown area were closed off due to filming so the best we could see were several blown up-looking cars that were dangling from a draw-bridge near Michigan.
